Japanese BBQ beef short rib in a Yakiniku marinade

SERVES 2

 

INGREDIENTS

  • 500g beef shortribs (sliced)

  • 1 cup light soy sauce 

  • 1/3 cup mirin 

  • 1/3 cup sake 

  • 2 tbsp sugar 

  • 1 red chili

  • 1 tbsp chili powder 

  • 1 pear (super ripe, peeled and grated)

  • 8 garlic cloves (minced)

  • 2 tbsp finely grated or minced ginger

  • 4 spring onions (finely chopped)

  • 1 tbsp sea salt 

  • Pepper to taste

 

METHOD

  1. Place all ingredients (except beef short ribs) into a large mixing bowl and mix until evenly incorporated.

  2. Add sliced beef short ribs to a deep tray and cover with marinade and allow marinate for 24hours - 3 days (the longer the better), before you cook them
